The purpose of the Public Sector Working Group (PSWG) is to develop PASA’s position, authority and visibility on public sector pensions administration and help to define and support improved administration outcomes for members of public sector pension schemes, including:
- Identifying and facilitating schemes to work together to address operational, regulatory and strategic challenges affecting public sector pension administration
- Championing high standards of administration, governance and member experience across public sector schemes
- Encouraging collaboration and knowledge-sharing across public sector organisations, suppliers, regulators and industry stakeholders
- Producing thought leadership, practical guidance and industry outputs relevant to public sector pension administration
- Supporting PASA’s strategic objectives around member outcomes, resilience, sustainability, digital transformation and industry standards
Public sector pension administration operates within a highly complex and fragmented environment encompassing multiple government departments, scheme types, governance structures, delivery models and regulatory frameworks.
The Working Group has been established in recognition of:
- Increasing operational and regulatory complexity across public sector schemes
- Ongoing remedy implementation and regulatory change
- Procurement challenges, public sector budget pressures, increasing political focus on public sector pensions and market resilience concerns
- Data quality and digital administration challenges
- The need for greater collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the sector
- The opportunity for PASA to provide leadership and practical guidance to support better member outcomes
