PRESS RELEASE – PASA launches Trustee–Administrator Engagement series to strengthen partnerships

PASA has published Part 1 of a new four-part trustee–administrator life-cycle series.

Part 1, Why Trustee–Administrator Relationships Matter, sets the strategic context for the series and highlights why effective administration oversight is a core governance responsibility. It reinforces the principle that administration is where governance becomes reality and reminds trustees of their legal duty to pay the right person, the right amount, at the right time.

The series responds to increasing regulatory expectations, operational complexity and sustained pressure on administration services. It promotes clear engagement, strong governance frameworks and collaborative working practices between trustees and administrators.

The remaining instalments will explore:

  • Appointing a new administrator and preparing for market review
  • Managing installation and transition
  • Building, measuring and maintaining an effective partnership, including practical oversight tools and case studies

Paul Couchman, Chair of the PASA Trustee and Administrator Engagement Focus Group, said: “Trustee–administrator relationships are built deliberately through clarity, transparency and shared understanding.

This series supports earlier, better informed conversations and provides a structured approach across the full lifecycle of the relationship. In a demanding environment of major projects and limited resource, collaborative partnership is essential.”

David Fairs, Chair of PASA, added: “Administration sits at the heart of member outcomes and trustee accountability. Strong engagement between trustees and administrators supports resilience, transparency and confidence across the pensions system.

This Guidance helps position administration as a strategic priority and encourages practical steps to strengthen delivery and oversight.”

PASA will also host an in-person industry discussion event following publication of the series, bringing trustees, administrators and advisers together to explore the themes in more depth.

Part 1 of the Trustee–Administrator lifecycle series is available to download now.
