Press Release - PASA to shine spotlight on deferred members at 2018 Annual Conference
PASA has announced the line-up for its Annual Administration Conference and Update, to take place in London on 13 February.
PASA’s first Annual Administration Conference, themed ‘The Year of the Deferred’, is a half- day event which will see a host of experts coming together to highlight why doing more to engage with deferred members should be on every trustee agenda for 2018, and how failure to do so can negatively impact a scheme.
With a keynote from Michelle Cracknell, Chief Executive of The Pensions Advisory Service, speakers for the Conference include: Mike Broomfield, The Pensions Regulator; Philip Brown, LV; Chris Connelly, Equiniti; Ben Fairhead; Pinsent Masons; Vincent Franklin; Quietroom and Margaret Snowdon; PASA. The Association’s Annual Update will follow the session, where some of PASA’s Committee members and Board will be joined by keynote, The Pensions Regulator’s Anthony Raymond, to discuss current areas of focus, plus key administration issues to watch out for in the coming year.
Margaret Snowdon, Chair of PASA commented: “With GDPR, IORP II and Pensions Dashboard on the horizon, data management must be top priority for trustees and it is important that deferred members are not forgotten in this process. Although active members may present the potential challenges for years to come, in actual fact, it is DB deferred members who pose the greatest number of current challenges for schemes. Deferreds account for a huge proportion of overall membership and liability, so not giving them proper attention can lead to any number of problems. These might include transfer requests and concerns about delays, as well as poor data quality hampering de-risking activities for schemes thinking about the ‘end-game’.
“Our conference has been set-up to provide people with practical advice on how to better manage data and improve transfer processes, whilst looking at how new kinds of technology might improve the way deferred members interact with administrators and create a more positive process for all. Guests will have plenty of opportunity to network and, as the session is PMI accredited, will be able to gain 5 PMI CPD hours.”
