Meet the Chairman and the Board

The Pensions Administration Standards Association (PASA), the independent body dedicated to driving up standards in pensions administration, announced today that Margaret Snowdon, OBE, has been voted in as the new Chairman. Snowdon took over from the previous Chair, Penny Green, on 1 August 2011.

Commenting on her appointment, Margaret said: “I am very pleased to take on the role as Chairman of PASA, particularly at such a crucial time for pensions administration with auto-enrolment just around the corner. I take the responsibility very seriously and plan to ensure that PASA is the recognised body on UK administration standards. My responsibilities will also include implementing the new accreditation scheme that will provide schemes and providers alike with a clear set of standards, guidelines and, more importantly, support to help them not only meet but exceed the requirements for any good UK scheme when it comes to administration and governance. The demands on the industry are continuously growing and we intend to be at the forefront helping people cope. I am also very fortunate to have a committed Board behind me to help.”

Penny Green, Chief Executive of SAUL commented: “It is a very exciting but also a crucial time for PASA as an organisation. Margaret is one of the most dynamic people in pensions and she has the drive and commitment that is really needed to lead PASA forward. She will be an invaluable asset to the organisation. Importantly she is also a ‘pensions person’ at core so really understands the needs of the market.”

When PASA was first formed, Margaret co-drafted the Business Plan and chaired the Governance sub-committee, responsible for creating the Board structure and operational guidelines. She also chaired the Accreditation sub-committee, starting the development of an independent accreditation service for work based pension schemes and providers which will become PASA’s flagship product. She gained the support of the DWP, tPR, PPF and ABI for the initiative. Margaret is Operations Director of Lucida, a UK insurance company focused on the annuity and longevity business, where she specialises in service delivery and client management.

The Chairman is in position for three years and is eligible for re-election for a further three. The Chairman is voted in, and supported in the role, by the Board of PASA compromising of 12 industry professionals and PASA members. This Board is also newly elected and comprises of:
